Baumanis Timber Contracting is a full-service logging contractor in BC delivering production, low-impact, and selective harvesting across coastal, interior, and northern timber profiles. Since 2012, our SAFE-certified crews have provided dependable harvesting contractor services to major licensees, woodlot owners, and First Nations forestry operations throughout British Columbia.
Production Harvesting
Our production harvesting operations cover the full phase from stump to roadside. We manage falling, bucking, skidding, forwarding, and log processing with experienced crews and well-maintained equipment suited to the timber type and terrain. Whether working in high-volume interior spruce or coastal old-growth, Baumanis delivers consistent production while meeting utilization standards and waste benchmarks.
We scale operations to match block size and timber value — from small woodlot parcels to large-volume cutblocks. Our crews coordinate with road builders, log haulers, and scaling operations to maintain efficient log flow from the stump to the sort yard.
Low-Impact Harvesting
Sensitive terrain, riparian buffers, and visually sensitive areas require a different approach. Baumanis provides low-impact harvesting solutions that minimize ground disturbance, protect soil integrity, and preserve residual stand structure. We use cable yarding, careful ground-based systems, and winter harvesting strategies to operate in areas where conventional methods would cause unacceptable site damage.
Our crews are experienced in working around wildlife habitat features, cultural heritage sites, and community watersheds — maintaining compliance with Forest Stewardship Plan requirements and site-specific management objectives.
Selective Harvesting & Partial Cuts
Selective harvesting and partial-cut systems are central to modern forest management in BC and across western Canada. Baumanis executes single-tree selection, group selection, and retention systems that maintain canopy cover, promote natural regeneration, and meet variable retention targets. Our fallers and equipment operators are trained to work within marked boundaries and protect designated leave trees.
Commercial Thinning
Commercial thinning improves stand health, accelerates growth on crop trees, and generates merchantable volume from mid-rotation stands. Baumanis conducts thinning operations in managed second-growth stands across the BC interior and coast, removing suppressed and intermediate stems to optimize spacing and stand value. Our crews work efficiently in tight spacing while minimizing damage to residual trees.
Resource Planning & Block Layout
Effective harvesting starts with sound resource planning. Baumanis provides strategic assessment of terrain, timber profiles, and environmental constraints to support block layout, road access planning, and harvest scheduling. We work with licensees and registered professionals to develop operationally feasible harvest plans that balance production targets with environmental stewardship.
Our planning capabilities include cut-block boundary assessment, yarding feasibility analysis, equipment selection recommendations, and phased development strategies for complex operating areas. This upfront planning reduces costs, prevents operational delays, and ensures regulatory compliance from the start.
Regional Experience
Baumanis has operated across BC's diverse timber regions — from coastal Douglas fir and western red cedar to interior spruce, pine, and sub-alpine fir profiles. We bring equipment and crew configurations adapted to northern conditions, steep coastal terrain, and the unique challenges of each timber supply area. Our regional experience means we understand the wood, the ground, and the regulatory landscape wherever we operate.
