Fuel Management &
FireSmart Services

Baumanis Timber Contracting is a FireSmart contractor delivering comprehensive fuel management and wildfire risk reduction services across British Columbia, Alberta, and Canada-wide. Since 2012, our SAFE-certified crews have helped communities, municipalities, First Nations, and private landowners reduce fuel loads and build resilience against wildfire through proactive landscape treatment.

Fuel Treatment & Fuel Reduction

Effective fuel management begins with reducing the volume and continuity of combustible vegetation in and around communities. Baumanis crews perform mechanical fuel treatment — thinning dense stands, removing ladder fuels that carry fire from the ground into the canopy, and reducing surface fuel loads through hand falling, brushing, and debris management. Our treatments are designed to modify fire behaviour, slowing spread rates and reducing flame lengths so that suppression crews and structure protection resources have a fighting chance.

FireSmart Assessments & Community Protection

As an experienced FireSmart contractor, Baumanis provides property and community-level assessments following FireSmart Canada guidelines. We evaluate structure vulnerability, surrounding vegetation, topography, and access routes to develop actionable protection plans. Our crews then implement the recommended treatments — creating defensible space around structures, thinning priority zones, and establishing fuel-free buffers that reduce ember exposure and radiant heat transfer.

Prescribed Fire & Broadcast Burning

Prescribed fire is one of the most effective tools for managing fuel loads at landscape scale. Baumanis plans and executes broadcast burning and pile burning operations under controlled conditions, reducing accumulated fuels while promoting forest health and natural regeneration. Our burn crews hold the certifications and field experience required to manage fire safely and effectively — from ignition through mop-up and post-burn assessment.

Firebreak Construction & Defensible Corridors

Strategic firebreak construction creates physical gaps in the fuel continuity, providing anchor points for suppression operations and protecting critical infrastructure. Baumanis builds and maintains defensible corridors along roads, utility rights-of-way, and community perimeters. These corridors serve dual purposes — reducing wildfire risk during fire season and providing safe access routes for emergency responders.

Silviculture & Stand Tending

Healthy forests are more resilient forests. Baumanis integrates wildfire risk reduction with silviculture and stand tending objectives, thinning overstocked stands to promote vigorous growth while simultaneously reducing fire hazard. Our crews perform juvenile spacing, pruning, and stand rehabilitation that improve both timber value and fire resistance over the long term.

Invasive Species Mitigation

Invasive plant species can dramatically increase fuel loads and alter fire behaviour. Baumanis incorporates invasive species identification and removal into fuel management programs, targeting species that contribute to elevated fire risk. By addressing invasive vegetation alongside conventional fuel treatment, we deliver more durable and ecologically sound outcomes.

Pile Burning

Following mechanical fuel treatment, debris piles require safe disposal. Baumanis manages pile burning operations from construction through ignition and final inspection, ensuring compliance with provincial burning regulations and air quality guidelines. Our crews schedule burns during optimal weather windows to minimize smoke impacts while achieving complete consumption of waste materials.
